Just a few short months ago, 2020 began with a booming economy and many were thinking of building a new home this summer. Then COVID-19 arrived, changing the way we work and shop. Work-from-home and social-distancing are now the new “norms” for many of us. So, how do we #staysafe, #socialdistance, and continue the plans to build a new home? Lucky for you, most of the work can be done right from your laptop…while in your PJs…and sitting in your comfy chair. However, there is no reason to wait, building a home takes design time. Here are some tips to #StaySafe, #SocialDistance, and get started on your dream home:
1) Online Floor Plans – You can start with our website at SMIHomes.com. We have a lot of information that will help get you started. Other great choices are Floorplans.com or Eplans.com. Remember, we custom design your home, so you won’t need anything more than a floor layout or a screen print to get started.
2) Websites & Social Media – Builders are working remotely during the #Stay-at-home order and most are online. This is a great time to visit their websites and Facebook pages to learn more about them and to ask questions. Many have past floorplans or photos of homes previously built. It is a great resource for ideas. You can use Skype, Zoom, or FB Chat to talk face-to-face with your builder if need be.
3) Financing – Do this early. Interest rates are at record lows and banks will do everything they can to help you get qualified for a new home loan. You will need to know how much is in your building budget before the floorplans can be designed. Who knows, you may get some unexpected good news here, too!
Get ahead of the rest. Once the building restrictions are lifted, work will continue and we are expecting a higher than normal volume of work. Your new home can be scheduled as soon as the floor plans and financing are ready to go. Happy Building!
